Texts by Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Jean Anouilh
Poetry by Joseph Brodsky

Medea

Place me like a seal on your heart,
Like a seal on your arm;
Love is as strong as death,
Its jealousy unyielding
As the grave.
Its coal is of hell,
Violent are its flames.

Song of Songs: Song of Solomon Book 8:6

Medea abandoned Yasonov. For the sake of her love for him, she sacrificed her family, her world, herself. Her husbands betrayal pushed her to commit heinous crimes.

We know that, the animal in man, once awakened, will destory everyting in its path, even great civilizations; revealing man's primitive passions—their irreverversibility, horror, and grandeur

Seneca’s powerful tragic text, the ancient mythical world, the open, contemporary language of Jean Anuya, the language of streets and kitchens—this paradoxical fusion of culture, language, and dissonance, this collision of time and space creates a desperate paradox, a modern tragedy.
